Since the day we decided to move back to LA, I knew that looking for a high paying, long-term job outside academia was gonna be a wild & terrifying ride. Taking into consideration that I’ve been knee-deep in academia for fifteen years, 2022 hasn’t disappointed in that regard! I’ve applied to so many jobs ranging from social media & marketing to copywriting gigs to technical/financial/pop culture/column writer, & even wealth management positions to the point where I’ve lost count. But as I wait for my next job interview, I’ve found that playing Minecraft has been strangely comforting and emotionally productive during the holiday season , even if it’s way too settler-colonialist for my comfort level with all of its unrepentant hoarding and destruction of natural resources.
